I’ve been a huge fan of affirmations since I first came across them 30 years ago!  Having suffered from panic attacks, I discovered the power of our thoughts over our emotions and the work of Louise Hay.  

Today, affirmations have become a vital part of our well-being toolkit and are widely practiced from celebrities such as Oprah, J-Lo and Lizzo, to professional athletes and people of all walks of life. 

What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are positive phrases or statements that, when repeated regularly,  can help replace negative thoughts and boost self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. 

With practice, repeating these statements can change negative or limiting thoughts and beliefs. The goal of using affirmations is to change one's mindset and create a new reality through the power of positive thinking. 

Affirmations are often used to improve self-esteem, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase motivation and focus.

Affirmations have been used for thousands of years in various spiritual and philosophical traditions as a way of reprogramming the mind and creating positive change. 

Affirmations for stress reduction 

Affirmations have also been shown to decrease stress, which is a valuable benefit to athletes. Adrenaline is beneficial in moderation, but anxiety before a competition can have negative impacts on sleep, training, and overall performance. By using positive affirmations, athletes are able to give themselves self-assurance about their abilities and give themselves permission to perform at the peak of their abilities.
